I will answer these questions.

In judo at the Tokyo Olympics in August 2021, Japan won nine gold medals, the most in individual history, as well as one silver medal, one bronze medal, and a total of 12 medals, including silver in the mixed team. made a breakthrough.
I am very happy about this, but as someone who has been watching judo for a long time, I am deeply moved by the fact that judo today has become completely different from what it used to be.
In this article, following Jigoro Kano, the father of judo, I will introduce Kyuzo Mifune, who is said to be the god of judo.

Once upon a time, there were judokas in Japan who were out of the ordinary.
From the outside, it may seem comical, but he worked hard every day to come up with his unconventional special moves.
At times, such people were misunderstood as eccentrics and eccentrics. Judokas who have seriously tackled the proposition that seems to be such a thing are also very strange in the eyes of the public.
Born in Iwate, Tohoku, his name was Kyuzo Mifune.
He was later honored as the “God of Judo”.
Born in 1883, Kyuzo Mifune entered Keio University from what is now Sendai Second Middle School. have become.
Later, in his over 60 years of judo life, he left behind the legend of “undefeated” that he never lost a match and never pitched.
The god of judo, Kyuzo Mifune, is one
Kyuzo Mifune was fascinated by the ideal of … with just one spirit, and when he was in training, he would first say “Ah!” and then repeatedly wrestle with his opponent.
However, no matter how many times I try, the opponent will not fly away with just one spirit.
Despite this, Mifune, who has a strong sense of pride, practiced for two hours where others would practice for one hour. He says he felt like
But… in fact, the opponent is not defeated…
So next time, in addition to fighting spirit, I changed my mind about touching the opponent just a little bit and throwing it. There is a “insect of training” that has been through 1000 practice for a month.
As I tried repeatedly, I felt that I could catch the opponent’s slight opening and throw it, but in reality I could not.

So, this time, I tried to think of something that could be done by grabbing the opponent lightly and moving myself a little.
If I put my foot in it, I could manage it, but that would be too far away from the proposition of “one spirit…”.
I can grab it and move myself… I can’t make any more concessions. Confused, Mifune pondered.
“Isn’t it because there’s a gap in my own technique?”
This time, I decided to work it out myself.
Mifune became obsessed with rubber balls. Mari is a sphere and rolls, but she never falls.
As soon as I wake up in the morning, I think about the sphere. Mifune watched the movement of the “ball” all day long, and after a while, he found that the “ball” moved fastest in a straight line and had a low center of gravity. “Theory of the sphere” gradually formed an image of the shape in his head.
However, an ideal conclusion alone cannot reach the goal. In order to put the theory into practice, practice was inevitable.
Somehow, Mifune’s technique has picked up speed. Finally, I learned how to use the movement of the opponent’s center of gravity to throw the opponent big and cleanly without touching his legs and just moving his body.
“air throw”is the birth of (In Judo terminology, “corner omission”)
Mifune says:
“In the deep underlying flow from which this technique was born, there is the philosophy and dream of judo, “Softness overcomes hardness.””
again,
“The center of gravity of a small person is low. The lower the center of gravity, the more solid the rock.” I thought that it was in the movement of a small person that broke the center of gravity of a large person.”
Mifune’s ideas were also incorporated into new techniques such as the ‘big car’ and ‘kibisu’.
However, whether it is “air throw” or “big car”, if you look at it from the outside, you can only see tricks from match-fixing. There’s no way the opponent would be thrown away just by moving with a flicker…” The higher the rank, the fewer judokas who believed in it.
In November 1930, the first All Japan Judo Championships were held. Mifune held a special match with Kaichiro Samura, who was also a 7th dan, and proved his true worth by defeating him with a splendid “air throw”.
The God of Judo The match between Mifune and Kaichiro Samura 7th Dan
The back-and-forth offense and defense continued, and before long, Samura showed a move to launch a technique. With his upper body straight and his center of gravity low, he stepped his left foot out to the side of his opponent’s right foot and pushed the opponent diagonally upwards.
Samura draws an arc and dances in the air…
It was the moment when the undeniable “air throw” was revealed to the public.
After that, Mifune developed a number of new techniques, but no one in the Japanese judo world after that created a technique of the “air throw” level.
When asked about the secret behind the creation of the “air throw,” Mifune simply replied:
the extraordinary is in the ordinary
That’s the only answer.
