“An idea is nothing more than a new combination of existing elements.”

This is the definition of an idea given in How to Produce Ideas by James Webb Young.

But how exactly do you come up with new ideas?

I will answer such questions.

Fresh ideas may be right in front of you! !

Therefore, this article is based on what you see in your daily life.
Here are some tips for generating fresh ideas.

Gather information you want

First, after reading this question, close your eyes and think about it.
What kind of “blue color” is around you now?

did you remember?
Now open your eyes and see the “blue color” around you.

How about that?
“Ah, there was blue over there, here, and all over the place.”
should have been

This is called the “color bath effect” and from the time you become conscious, the information associated with it
It’s something that catches your eye.

This is not limited to color.

If you decide on one problem awareness,
Information related to it is coming.

And when I spend my time consciously
“Wait… This might work!”
You can inspire based on the information that jumps into your eyes.

The point is that the brain is an “automatic discovery machine” that discovers what you are conscious of.

Perspective ✖️ Change your perspective

We often hear people say, “Change your perspective.”

That being said, many people don’t know how to change their point of view.

When it’s like that, let’s move your body and actually change it.
For example, the goal is to create a store that is easy for children to use.

If you are told to “think from a child’s perspective,” try squatting down to eye level.
Keep your arms and legs as short as possible.

Then the world changes. I notice things I didn’t notice.
This insight creates new ideas.

play an association game

This is an association game, a way to generate ideas by associating more and more from one thing.

An old TV show, a game called “Magical Banana” from Magical Brain Power

do you know?

This is a game that reminds you of words such as “When you say banana, it’s yellow” and “When you say yellow, it’s McDonald’s ‘M'”.

When I started doing this by myself, my head started spinning.

You will be able to pull out the words that have been tucked away in the back of your head.

When you draw out a word, it becomes a trigger, and various memories come back.
That memory corresponds to the challenges and problems you are facing now.
When you hit it, an idea is born.

Associative games often lead to solution thinking, so it is more effective to take notes while playing.

Osborne’s checklist

Osborn’s Checklist is the brainstorming invention of Mr. Osborne.
This is a list for coming up with different ideas when you can’t come up with ideas.

There are nine checklists in all.

  • [What if I divert it? ]
What is the new use as it is now?
[Why don’t you apply it? ]
Is there anything similar? Can you imitate it?
[What if I change it? ]
What happens if you change the meaning, the color, the movement, the smell, the shape?
[Why don’t you enlarge it? ]
What happens when you make it bigger, longer, more often, or longer?
[What if I reduce it? ]
What happens when you make it smaller, shorten it, lighten it, compress it, shorten it?
    [What if I substitute? ]
Who or what can be replaced? Is it possible to replace materials, locations, etc.?
    [After replacement? ]
What happens if you change the order?
    [What if it’s reversed? ]
What if you turn it upside down? What if the roles are reversed up, down, left and right?
    ・【What if I join? ]
What happens when you combine, mix, combine?

The definition of an idea is “a new combination of existing elements”.

This list is useful for that combination.

By using Osborne’s checklist
Various ideas with different shapes from the same information source
It will also be possible to float.
