From the turning point at age 60 to a shogi piece master
As he approached the age of 60, he began to take care of his mother, but a pension problem was discovered, and the pension disappeared. She started a shogi salon because she couldn’t leave her house because of her mother’s nursing care. Little by little, he began to buy shogi boards through online auctions and began searching for good pieces.
After that, she was approached at the “Fuji Koma no Kai” exhibition and sale, and asked, “Did you find any good pieces?” When I answered, “They’re all wonderful, it’s hard to choose one over the other,” the man said, “If you don’t like one, why don’t you try making it yourself!”
That’s what Mr. Takeo Osawa, a Koma-shi who teaches the members of the Fuji Koma-no-kai, said.
Mr. Osawa is a piece maker who makes pieces under the pseudonym “Fugetsu”, and his pieces have been used many times in title matches. This encounter led to Mr. Endo, who was 59 years old, starting training in Koma-making with Mr. Osawa as his master.
In November 2018, when Mr. Endo was 66 years old, the pieces used by Mr. Endo were used in the 3rd game of the shogi title match “Ryuo Battle”. At the age of 59, he became a piece maker and at the age of 66, the piece he made was used in the “Ryuo Battle”. It’s amazing that you’ve been a piece master for less than 7 years!
